I started making candles during Covid when I discovered how toxic most candles are. I come from a large family and wanted to make some handmade Christmas gifts that year. As I've told a few people since - one trip to Hobby Lobby and it was love at first candle! That first candle turned out so perfectly and I thought "how hard can this be?" But like most things, to get really good at anything requires time, effort, research-and in my case a lot of candle wicks!
I later became interested in soapmaking after getting to know other makers at some of the markets around Austin. Our soaps have become just as popular as our candles and I love the fact that it is a product that is so natural and useful to people. We now make several variations of goats milk soap, coconut milk soap and use some of our own herbs including sage, rosemary and lavender in our soaps.
My mother, Rose passed away shortly before I started making candles. She was an artist in her own right and passed on a love of beauty and art in everyday life. One day while researching scents I discovered that her perfume l'aire du temps was among 4 of the best scents ever created. I decided that if this little candle company ever got wings, I would name it after Rose.
